If 2016 was the year of the pin badge for me, then 2017 has definitely been the year of the houseplant. When we moved into our house at the end of the 2015, we didn’t own a single plant. By the end of 2016, I could probably count our plants on one hand. By August 2017, we have almost 20.
For full disclosure, I’m not a natural gardener. One of the main attractions of our current house was that the garden wasn’t too big, and being a new build, the entire thing would be turfed. Not a single flowerbed to weed! It’s not that I don’t like plants, it’s just that both me and Mr Makes only really get time for our hobbies at the weekend, and we’d much rather spend our time sewing, crafting, baking, cycling, etc. You get the picture. Last month I posted my first make for our nursery, and I’m pleased to say that I’ve happily been crafting away since. My initial plan to have a monochrome nursery is still going ahead, and I’ve been busy making a couple of things to help make the room feel a little more homely. Continue reading →
I’ve blogged time and time again about my love for independent makers and designers. Since first discovering Hello Dodo I’ve been in love with their bright colours and quirky prints. Based in Worthing, they make t-shirts, prints, sweatshirts, and much, much more. One of the reasons I love Hello Dodo so much is that Mr Makes adores their stuff, and so I know I can always find something perfect for him (his last Christmas, Birthday, and even Valentines have featured Hello Dodo in some way).
A few months ago, Hello Dodo announced that for one week only they would be taking over Colonnade House in Worthing and hosting a pop-up shop. An excuse to visit the seaside and buy lots of shiny new things? I was instantly sold, and Mr Makes didn’t need much convincing either. So, on a sunny Saturday morning we set about on a road trip to Worthing to visit one of our favourite creative businesses! Continue reading →
Since then, I’ve shared 29 of my hand lettered pieces, and as I’m now almost a third of the way through, I thought it would be nice to open up the challenge and ask my blog readers/Instagram followers/friends to get involved too! So, do I want you all to start hand-lettering your own quotes? Well, whilst that would be fab, and I wholeheartedly encourage it, no I’m not. After 30 days, I don’t want my posts to get too repetitive, so I’m asking for your ideas! Continue reading →
I had my first taste of photo walks at Blogtacular last year, and it’s safe to say I was hooked right away. Walking around new places with fellow creatives taking photos is now one of my favourite things to do, and so as soon as the sign-ups for this year’s photo walks opened up, I was instantly filling in my details. This post feels very timely, given that tomorrow the weather forecast is for ANOTHER hot day. Don’t get me wrong, I like a bit of sunshine, and I’m not a fan of really hot weather at the best of times, but when I’m growing another human being, I’m definitely not a fan!
Despite this, when the weather is a little bit cooler, it is nice to sit out in the sun and make the most of the nice weather. We haven’t really taken advantage of our garden since we moved in, but with a little one on the way, this is probably going to change. My latest make is perfect for those moments when we do want to spend some time outside. Continue reading →
On Instagram, I recently announced a new creative challenge that I would be undertaking for 2017. Inspired by some of my fellow creatives, I’ve decided to give the 100 Day Project a go. The idea behind the project is quite straightforward: pick something creative, and do it for 100 days in a row. Simple, right? Continue reading →
When I first announced my pregnancy, I had lots of friends commenting on how they couldn’t wait to see all of things I was going to make. 26 weeks in, and I’m slightly ashamed to say that I haven’t made a single thing so far! That’s not to say I haven’t thought about it (I have, a lot) I just haven’t really had the time. So when it was time to decide on my third project for the Sew Crafty Design Team, I knew that this was the perfect opportunity to get the baby crafting underway. Continue reading →
Two weeks have passed since I attended Blogtacular. I’d initially hoped to get a blog post written up in the days immediately after the event, but when I sat down to jot my ideas, I still found myself processing everything!
For me, Blogtacular is one of the highlights of my year. Not only is it a chance to have a few days away in one of my favourite places, it’s also an opportunity to surround yourself with creative people who just ‘get’ what you do. It’s a time to mingle with like-minded people, to be inspired, and perhaps most importantly, to feel empowered to do the things that you truly want to do. Continue reading →
